In 1959 King Hussein of Jordan opened the first Amman Racecourse and was accompanied by his younger brother Prince Mohammed. Amongst the dignitaries that day were the British Ambassador and his wife, and the American Ambassador. |

The Wadi Rum Cup is an endurance horse race staged annually in Jordan, traditionally involving up to 100 horses racing across 120km of desert. |

Princess Haya, King Hussein's daughter by his third wife, Queen Alia, owned a number of racecourses which enjoyed tremendous success on English tracks, most notably New Approach (SR 2044) which won the 2008 Epsom Derby. |
